Please be careful if you're visiting Chaweng and enjoy a dip in the sea. I had the unfortunate experience of seeing somone drown today. Although many of us attempted to revive him he sadly passed away. This guy was a fit strong young person. Since this incident I have seen many such stories from Chaweng, it appears to be a common occurrance. Look out for the red flags and warnings, and if they're there DON'T go in! This has affected me greatly, I can only guess what the families feel. Don't let this happen to you or you're loved ones.

Being fit doesnt mean u can swim. I swim at beaches where people drown every year and i have no problems. People who are weak swimmers and dont know how to handle rips shouldnt go past waist height in the ocean but dont want to listen.

This guy was both a strong swimmer and only in waist high water, although the waves were crashing in. Whatever your fitness and swimming ability you should not go in if the flags are red.
This was a message for others to be aware of the danger on this beach. It has devestating effects for all those involved.
Take care in the ocean and give it the respect it demands!

Nature will kill you if you give it half a chance. It's not your friend.

Leonard, you obviously don't know rips as well as you say you do, and you can actually drown in 2 inches of water!
You are so right Madmac, and thank you Somtam, an experience I would not like to repeat!
