hey guys,
what is the best way to get to the Poipet / Aranyaprathet Border from Bangkok Int. Airport? taxi? How long is the journey? I'll be arriving at about 9pm, Bangkok and will be setting off to Siem Reap from there. I've read that the first bus from Northern Bus Termina to Aranyaprathet is at 3am?
thanks alot!

Airfaze,
I think you've got three options to get from Bangkok to Aranyaprathet. There are two trains per day from Bangkok's main Hualampong train stations (approx 6 am and 1 pm), lots of buses (sorry, don't know when the earliest one departs), or hiring a taxi to make the trip. The train takes about 5 hours, a bus 4 or so, and a taxi maybe 3. Train is really cheap, like 50 baht, bus about twice that, and a taxi something like 2,000 baht, although you might want to negotiate a price up front rather than take the meter (unless you know the shortest route by road to Aranyaprathet!).
By the way, there are also package trips offered out of the Khao San Road area, but none of the feedback has recommended taking this option - they say it is a rip-off.
Are you planning to sleep that night before you head off to Aranyaprathet?
Also, check out the talesofasia website for more detailed information on the overland trip options from Bangkok to Siem Reap. Have a good trip.

I'm not planning to stay for the night and will be setting off straight for Aranyaprathet. I suppose the train option is out since i''ll be arriving at 9pm.
I've read tales of asia, i have to get to the Northern Bus Terminal to catch a bus to Aranyaprathet and it looks like i would miss the last bus at 6pm!

As far as I know, the first bus out to Aran is at 04:00 and the last one at 16:00. My timetables are a little old though so the schedule may have changed. If you arriving at 21:00 you won't be clear of the airport till about 22:00 -- assuming you absolutely do not want to overnight in Bkk, I'd say cab is your best bet -- unless you want to hang around for a morning flight to Siem Reap.
