Hi, we're trying to get from Samui to Bangkok in as little time and costing as less as possible. I've found flights from Surat Thani to Bangkok, how long is it from Samui to Surat Thani? Also are there any frequent buses/trains from Surat Thani to Bangkok and how long would they take?
Thanks for any info

You can fly from Samui to bkk with Bangkok Air - expensive but nice airport (+400baht departure fee?) and many flights to chose from.
Suratthani is cheaper but you have to get across on ferry 1.5 hours plus waiting and then get to the airport (sorry no time details).
there is a slow but enjoyable overnight train
also the buses are quick and cheap.
If you hire a car the trip is about 7 to 8 hours. Budget might do one way hire from Samui.

As Wilko said the ferry from Samui to the mainland (Don Sak) takes 1.5 hours. From Don Sak pier it takes about an hour by bus to Surat Thani and from there another half an hour to the airport. In all honesty I don't think that a cheaper fare is any reason to fly out of Surat rather than Samui considering the hassle of getting to Surat airport.

Thanks for all the info!
About the buses... where do we catch them from (Samui or Surat Thani)? And about how long does it take and does it come frequently?
We need to be at Bangkok by at least 8pm to catch a flight home, can we catch a bus in the morning from either Samui or Surat that will get us there in Bangkok on time?

You'll still have to take te ferry on the bus or to catch one and then the journey all the way up will be about 9/10 hours (guess).....
Maybe catch the ferry and get a taxi to the airport.
there are some discounted flights with Bkk Air...they were forced to offer some by the Govt.......but thety will be early am or some inconvenient time. Check with Bkk Air...their web site is CRAP!

msaw if you are really so tight for timw why not just catch a plane from Samui? It seems like you are making life much harder for yourself. There are no taxis in Surat so you will need to either catch a bus or a songthaew, both of which are slow as they will stop regularly along the way. Normally the buses leave Surat at about 8am and arrive in Bkk at about 6pm so if your flight is at 8pm you will already be late for your check-in.
Honestly mate, fly from Samui to Bkk and enjoy the rest of your holiday without any stress.
