Huggo,
I'm not aware of any boat or ferry company making the trip across the Gulf of Thailand from Pattaya or Koh Samet or Koh Chang to Samui. It's a great idea, but I guess there aren't enough of us willing to pay the fare to make it possible. I'd love to hear if anyone does know of a ferry company travelling that route.
In the mean time, it looks like Bangkok Airways has increased their Pattaya to Ko Samui direct flights to twice daily (at 1050 and a hangover-friendly 1650). The problem is that the Pattaya airport is a bit distant from Pattaya proper, and I don't know if it is easier or cheaper to get to the Pattaya (U-Tapao) airport or head all the way back to Bangkok and fly out of Suvarnabhumi.
The flight out of Pattaya/U-Tapao at least gives you the option of avoiding backtracking through Bangkok and would be an interesting, road-less-travelled route.
I hope that helps. Cheers.

There definitely WAS a ferry co running there about 6 months ago...the web site was crap and in Thai.....sounded like it would not last long. It is a cruise boat/ship type thing.

WELL , thats news to me .
But since I am in town at the moment I will go down to the pier and find out .
There has been loads of stories over the years , about ferries starting up to Samui , Hua Hin etc.,and they never seem to last more than a week .
Wasnt there a seaplane for a while ?

There was a web site and a boat but the links in Thai /visa don't bring it up any more, so I guess it's stopped.

There's some interesting photos too!!!!!
It looks like the ship came to a sad end...it appears to have been operating in 2006.
