Does it make the most sense to shop in BKK for clothes etc. vs rest of Thailand re best deals/quality. If other places are recommended, please specify city and/or market. Where are the best deals found?

Do you mean tailor-made cloths or bulk/pirated clothes? In either case, I'd say Bangkok is difficult to beat. For tailor-made there's approx 5,435,235 tailors on Sukhumvit Rd, for bulk purchase, north of Siam Square (near Panthip Plaza), for pirate, labelled clothes, Sukhumvit street stalls and KSR.

Shopping in Bkk, whilst the prices are as good as anywhere can involve a lot of running around and can be tiring and takes some time.

Depending on what you want you might try Pattaya or Chiang Mai, both are a lot easier to get around it and have good shopping for particular itemx

One good thing about Bangkok is that if you stay there first you can check out the prices for things that interest you and then compare that price and quality, etc. to what you find in other cities you travel to!

Another thing is that when you make purchases in other cities you have to carry that junk with you all over Thailand until your finally return back to Bangkok for your flight home.

Some things regionally made may be cheaper than what you can find in Bangkok, for instance stuff made in Chiang Mai or made in Phuket will probably be cheaper than the same stuff sold in Bangkok! But you still have to carry this junk with you until your flight home!

I dont know if we are looking for any 1 thing in particular. Knock off label clothing and interesting keepsakes? If we are in BKK over a weekend where is the best place/market to shop in BKK? Whats at Patpong Market? and is it worth going to Patpong just to see it for what it is - and not necessarily "shop"??

I'd avoid Patpong to be honest. That area draws big crowds that are interested in the bars and clubs, it's a fairly expensive area so you can bet that you'll be paying a wee bit more at the market as well. Check out the Saphan Phut night market, not so busy and lots of good stuff on sale.
