I Love this site!!
My wife and I are making a trip to Thailand (6/22 - 7/2) and I have been researching like crazy (i.e. internet, friends, lonely planet) and this is far and away the best resource I have seen.
We are planning on getting or padi diving certifiacation on Koh Tao. I just booked the train+ferry online (which I also learned about on this fantastic site) and am thinking about the accomodation. Do you recommend booking ahead or just getting acommodation when you show up?
Also, I checked a couple of the sites to places recommended on this site ( Sensi Paradise, Sai Thong) and thier prices were 2 to 3 times higher than what was listed on this site. Is that a real price increase or is it just because I am attempting to book online.
Our Ko tao coverage is quite old and I know there have been a lot of developments on th island since we were last there. A researcher is going there next week to update it actually, so we should have more up-to-date content in the next few weeks.
Prices go up and down, but in Ko Tao generally up up and up.

Hi Ben ;)
i'm local Thai living in Bangkok but i go to koh tao a lot
anyway...i'm glad u are coming to Koh Tao!! It's good for doing open water cuz it's really cheap hehe and hmm... you can actually book the accomodation there .. no problem cuz it's not so busy yet..
well....Sai Thong huh? I'm so glad it's on your list cuz there are so many places to stay anyway.. Sai Thong Beach is very unique.. it's a very lovely sunset beach... I would recommend for couples cuz it's very private...and there are many beautiful big rocks =) well... now the price is like 200-2000 Baht ;)

Hi Beachbunny,
Thanks for your reply and thanks for the recommendation. I'll just book my accommodation when I show up. We'll check Sai Thong first. It sounds like just what we were looking for.

Thanks for your quick reply. That was fast.
I guess if you coverage is kind of old you don't know if reservations are necessary.
I'll keep checkin' back for the updates.
Thanks again,
Ben
