Hi,
I planned to go to Phuket on late August but it seems to be a bad time because of the Monsoon. Which beach would you recommend at this time of the year for nice beaches, great hotels, calm and quiet?
I thought about ko Samui, what do you think?
Xuan

Hi Xuan,
In August you'll get a little bit of rain everywhere, but you'll get far less on Samui than you will on Phuket, so Ko Samui should be a good choice. I'm on Samui at the moment and the weather is great and there is certainly no shortage of fine hotels!

in august best bet is: samui, phangan and koh tao as well . these islands have a micro-climate , a chance to escape monsoon!

Thanks for the info, I think we'll change to thise area and avoid too much rain.
Actually my friend already booked flights Bangkok to Phuket.
Is it easy/far/safe to go to Koh samui or Phangan from Phuket by bus or can we rent a car for a reasonable price? Or shall we lose our tickets and take new ones to the island directly by plane?
Thansk again.
Great web and message board, by the way.

Glad you like the site!
Yes it is straightforward to get from Phuket to Samui - easiest way is combined bus/ferry ticket which any agent in Phuket can handle -- bear in mind door to door the trip will take the best part of a day, so if the flights were cheapies and you have limited time, consider writing them off.
