after three very cultural weeks in cambodia and laos (i WILL be templed out) in july i wanted to spend some time on the beach on my way to bangkok (more or less!), and it seems like ko samet is pretty much the best option...
only thing is - how on earth do i get from ubon ratchathani to ko samet? the only thing i've found so far is a bus from ubon ratchathani to khorat, then another one to chanthaburi and ban phe from there... but if that's the case (and if it's the only option) is there any chance of doing the trip all in one day (i.e. without having to sleep somewhere halfway through)?
if i, let's say, leave ubon ratchathani in the morning, get to khorat late afternoon, will there be an overnight bus to chanthaburi? so that i can be in ban phe in the morning...
(i wonder why i always seem to choose complicated trips...!!!)

Hi bonbongirl,
From Ubon that sounds about right and if you left Ubon early, you should be able to make the whole thing in a day. The only other routing that springs to mind is Ubon to Khorat then a bus from there to Rayong, from where you can get a songtheaw to Ban Phe for the ferry -- that may be faster, though I'm not 100% sure there are direct buses from Khorat to Rayong...
