Hi there. me and my best mate are going to southern thailand for 3 weeks and we were after some advice as to where we should go/stay.
We're both 22 years old (australians), and we were keen to go where other younger tourists would be, whilst having nice scenery/beaches so we can just lay on the beach all day with some partying at nights. ( we don't ask for much do we :D ? )

We are going from late july to mid august so we wondered which side of the coast would be better to stay on this time of year, particularly weather wise...is it different on each side of the island this time of year? ie: the koh samui/pan ngan(east coast) side or the koh phi phi/ koh lanta side (west)....

budgetwise we'll share a room and we're happy to pay up to $70-$80 USD bucks a night (combined)(we're not backpacking but we're not 5 starring it) so if anyone has any recommendations of accomodation/ bungalows on specific islands/beaches that would be fantastic (anything significantly cheaper is fine if it's recommended).

so basically i guess the best places for younger travellers to go over 2-3 weeks, the best beaches/islands for young adults- we really don't want to find an island paradise full of older retired couples ( maybe in 30 years or so) and no younger social scene or nightspots.

My first suggestion would be Ko Pha Ngan and then, if you want to dive, Ko Tao -- both islands have good weather in July and August -- and will be far better than the islands on the west coast.

Check Travelfish listings for unbiased accommodation recommendations -- in particular the island's East Coast could be up your alley.
