I read all about traveling to Chiang Mai from Bangkok on the recent travelfish post and went to the www.seat61.com website that Somtam2000 posted. We decided to take the sleeper train to Chiang Mai and fly back. So I went to the www.travelfocus.com website to purchase the tickets but upon confirmation of payment, the total was listed as 244.78 DOLLARS for three people! Is this right?
It doesn't seem right as the seat61 website said it would be 21 dollars for the second class sleeper. What happened?
What website did you guys use to purchase the tickets? Also, the we don't arrive in Bangkok till July 1st so where do we pick up the ticket if we purchase it online? I don't think we'll get it in time to have it sent by mail to Los Angeles.
Thanks for your help guys, it's just so hard to book something without a simple 1-800 number to call for help.

That can't be correct, unless you are being hit-up with a huge service charge by the company, it should be anywhere near that amount. There must have been a mistake made somewhere UNLESS roundtrip 1st. class sleeper tickets were purchased. Then it would make sense.
I've never ordered my tickets online before, but I would guess that they can be picked up at the train station.
If you can, just get them from a travel agent when you arrive in Bangkok. That is, unless you have to get right up to Chiangmai upon arriving in Bangkok.
