This is my first time to travel Thailand. I'll arrive in BKK from China on the 14th. Plan to travel by bus from BKK to Kho Pha Ngan, is it possible? I'm going to stay there from July 15-28 alone. Will plan to attend a Full Moon Party as my birthday resent to myself on that day. I'm still confused where the a cheap/reasonable place to stay, I appreciate any recommendations. I heard about some bungalows for rent but then its good for a month.

After this, I'm off to Cambodia particularly at Angkor Wat to Phen Nom and Veitnam in Ho Chi Minh for 7 days. I really don't know what I'm going to do there but I think it's good to travel in neighboring countries before I fly back to BKK on August 12th.

I want to meet some people to chat as well or travel together, dunno if it's possible.

Thanks,

Lilian

There are lots of buses from Bangkok's southern bus terminal to Chumpon from where ferries leave for Phangan via Ko Tao. An overnight bus is popular - arriving in time for the first ferries out.
A service I've seen praised by many posters is Lomprayah which runs a bus/fast catamaran service right thru - there is a day bus and a night bus. Maybe you could google their website or check my Phangan page which has a sublink.
An alternative is a sleeper train - either to Chumpon or Surathani which is some distance further south. I think the railways can sell you a combined train-ferry ticket.

A nice quiet beach only 15 minutes walk from the FMP is Leela Beach. Leela Beach Bungalows and Lighthouse are two budget places, Coco-Hut is a midranger. Not too sure about their booking policies at FMP time - a lot of budget places are walk-in, can't be booked.
You don't have to stay close to the party - good transport goes from all around the island. This means you can pick a nice beach like Thong Nai Pan, Hat Sadet or Hat Mae. Note it is sometimes expensive getting back to your beach if you want to return early am and are the only passenger - Hat Rin's transport mafia takes advantage of these types of situations. Lots of people stay until daylight when normal island songthaews start up.

It's dead easy to meet fellow travellers for chat - or team up for onward travel.
