Can someone advise me if I need to book accomodation for our 3 weeks in Thailand from the 27th Dec until the 2nd or 3rd week in Jan 2007. We really don't know where we will be, as we would like to just go along and stay in places for a day or more if we like it. The only accomodation we have booked is the first 2 days in BKK and our last night before we fly home to Australia.Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Hi Red,
You're going to be in Thailand in absolute peak season, so some places will be very busy -- especiall on NY's eve. However, unless you have your heart set on a particular guesthouse or hotel on particular nights, you'll always be able to find somewhere to stay.
Booking your first and last nights is a good approach -- especially as it sounds like you'll have a very variable travel plan -- as long as you're happy to be flexible, I'd say go for it and just wing it -- only a fraction of hotels take online reservations anyway.

booking first and last nights is a really smart way to go. since you want to stay flexible in your travels, i think you'll be okay not booking ahead too. what i would recommend however is having an idea ahead of time of which cities/places you'll be visiting, and pick two or three places that are sort of close to each other in each place (and have the contact details written down too). that way once you arrive, you won't waste too much time finding a place to stay, or get too hot and sweaty hauling around your pack. regards.
