I'll be in Thailand October/November, probably Chiang Mai and surrounds and some parts of northeastern and southern Thailand. I haven't worked out a definite itinerary yet. One of the things I've noticed are the number of festivals in Thailand. I'll be able to go to dragon boat races in Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son and will also be in Thailand for Loi Krathong and Buddhist Lent(and no, I am not a Buddhist). There's at least two festivals most months of the year so it could be a good idea to research what's on when you're going.

The best thing about festivals is the market food.

Market food is available throughout thailand (in markets) lol.

25th November - Loi Krathong. My wife says this is very good. The Thais make decorations from bannana leafs. I light a candle on a little boat (ga-tong) and send it off to sea. :)

Loi Krathong is on the full moon night. Hopefully that's a bit earlier than 25th November this year as that's when I fly out. But I should manage the boat races and the Buddhist Lent.
Made a mistake in my initial post, there are boat races at Mae Hong Son but the others are at Nan.

Love that market food.
