Hi Everyone,

What's the best way to plan for a trip to KL from Bangkok by land? We want to stop in Ko Tao on the way. What buses/train should we take, where do we take them, how long is the trip, etc. We have 14 days after leaving Bangkok for the hole trip including our stay in KL and Ko Tao.

Any help you all can extend will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. Is diving in Ko Tao in January bad due to monsoon period?

from bkk take lomprayah bus at 6am from kao san road area (www.lomprayah.com), this will take u direct to their pier near chumphon, where u board there catermaran to koh tao, arriving there about 2pm same day. from koh tao, have to take boat to thongsala pier on koh phangnan first, then take sea-tran ferry from there to don sak on mainland. then take public bus from there to surat thani town centre. beware of scams here! take a tuk tuk or songtheaw to the train station, which is a long way west of town. train from bkk to butterworth in malaysia stops at surat thani at about midnight. it arrives in butterworth train station at about midday next day, malaysian time. from there take a super vip bus from the adjoining bus station to kl, about 4 hours and 24 rinngitt.

hope that is helpful, youll find it all on web too. eg www.seat61.com. IMPORTANT:u will have to book surat thani-butterworth sleeper berths before u leave bangkok, from the advance booking room at hualamphong train station, OTHERWISE IT WILL BE FULL.
