We are trying to plan our honeymoon and are dying to visit Thailand, but are concerned with the weather in May. We have seen some conflicting information and want to know if it is worth postponing our trip. I know it's impossible to predict the weather, but we would probably consider other alternatives if the chances for cloudy/rainy days was high.

Hi,

In May it should be hot. I mean HOT!! I wouldn't of thought it would be very cloudy/rainy but it is the other extream. Thailand is very humid too.

If you could go in April you could at least do Songkran (Thai New Year/Water fight)

Perhaps look at our Thai weather map -- it should give you a good idea of what the weather is like where.

May is kinda tricky, because if you look at the stats on Travelfish's great weathermap, most places get a little blip of extra rain that is only surpassed late in the wet season.
But the stats also tell you the places with least rain are the southern Gulf islands (Phangan and neighbours) and Ko Samet.
Long term visitors will tell you other places are normally quite okay to visit - the only thing you need check is that transport links are still running (eg Lipe is normally already down to 2 boats outwards a week).

Postoning it? - well the southern Gulf Islands tend to be fairly dry mid year into late Sept, but most other places are only a BIT drier mid year and get wetter August-Oct, and the Ko Chang area tends to get REAL wet in mid year.
