It mentions driving directions, but I won't be renting a car when I'm in Bangkok, so I'm wondering if there's any other means of transport available to get there.
I've not heard of that particular temple, but there's a few across Thailand with similar "hell gardens". By the sounds of things, the temple is closer to Suphanburi than Bkk -- just 40km -- so if you're intent on visiting it, I'd suggest getting a bus from Bkk to Suphanburi then a songtheaw back to the temple -- there's directions amongst the comments in the above mentioned post.
Sorry, I meant to say, another temple with similar gardens is Wat Sri Khom Kham in Phayao province in northern Thailand. See the sights section for there for a little more information on the temple.

Thanks for the good info! Unfortunately, my Lonely Planet Guidebook doesn't list either Suphanburi or Phayao. Hopefully once I land in Thailand, I can find out more details about transportation options.
went to Wat Sri Khom Kham in Phayao in Dec 2005, & also read Richard's blog regularly. the 'hell garden' there can't be compared to the one in Wat Phai Rong Wua, at least based on Richard's photos...unless there has since been a major renovation + touch up.
for Suphanburi: http://wikitravel.org/en/Suphanburi_%28province%29 might give you some leads.
for Wat Sri Khom Kham in Phayao :
not far out, i walked there from the town centre.

Does anyone know how to get to Wat Pai Rong Wua (Buddhist Hell Park) via public transportation from Bangkok?

When you say they can't be compared, which is the better one?

Wat Phai Rong Wua is better - in terms of the 'hell garden', based on Richard's photos (i haven't been there before).
