Hi,
What is the weather like in Thailand in May, particularily the southern region? Websites say it is the start of monsoon season, does that mean it will rain hard for an hour, or rain all day?

no rain all day long. as you mentioned it´s the beginning of the wet season particularily in the east. in the south it starts later. should be fine on samui, phangan and tao-these islands are "blessed" with a kind of a micro-climate.

It depends. On my second day in Samui, it rained for most of the day. When I transfered to Pha Ngan it's sunny all day and only rains for an hour or two around 4-5 pm. But yeah, it's still mostly sunny.
