Has it been raining heavily in Chaig Mai as it has been in the lower provinces, thinking of going up there for a week on the 12th of July. Any ideas about the weateher. Also i no some treks and tours can be not as they seem, does anyone have any suggestions of reputable companies, i've heard to avoid long tours and stick to day packages. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks
For trekking advice, you may want to give our Trekking in Thailand feature a read as it points out some of the points to be wary of.
As far as trekking goes, if you're trekking out of Chiang Mai, you'll have a far better experience on a two or three day trek as that will allow you sufficient time to get out of the town and into the real hinterland. The one day trips tend to be very contrived affairs and you'll barely be getting off sealed roads.
I was in Chiang Mai a few weeks ago and the weather was good -- no rain to speak of, but that was a few weeks ago! You can see more weather info on our interactive weather map.
