We are thinking of either Palm Beach resort on Koh Maak or Shantaa on Koh Kood. Which place should we choose? What are the main diferences between these two islands? We are a family with two kids age 7 and 10 who wants a relaxing week on the beach with some diving and snorkeling after a week in Cambodia.

The main differences are the amount of development ( Ko Maak is more developed relative to Ko Kut ) and size -- Ko Maak is far smaller.
Ko kut gets a lot of traffic from organised Thai tour grousp, so there's a focus on activities and excursions and while these are available on Ko Maak , it's also more of a DIY destination.
I'd probably lean towards Ko Maak primarily because it isn't as isolated, the kids could bike around the island and it's easy to visit offshore Ko Kham should you want to.
