Sending photocopy of passport

    I am getting Traveller 2000 to book a train for me.Everthing went well but now they are asking me to send a pic of my passport along with my credit card #.Im feeling a bit leary about this. Is this common place?
    Let me add that I love this site

    A photocopy of the passport can be send without worrying. But credit card's data must be send only via trusted channel (web form with https) because high risk of fraud. E-mail/Fax are NOT trusted channels, they can be easily wiretapped, or data can leak occasionally.
    In the similar case i preferred pay $50 to local agency in cash instead sending a photocopy of my card and pay $25 :)
