Help - Chaweng Beach Accommodation
27th June, 2006
We tried to book a room with asiarooms.com at Baan Chaweng Beach Resort since July 20 for 3 nights (check-in on Jul 25 and check out on Jul 28). We waited the obligatory 48 hours and have been enquiring by email 2 to 3 times a day for updates. Each time I enquired, asiarooms would reply back apologizing for the delay but they have contacted the hotel and they will reply shortly. Finally, we called asiarooms and the lady said they will reply withing 12 hours for sure as it is midnight in Samui and they can't do much. So, we called directly to the hotel and the hotel staff said that the hotel is booked for the days we want - grrr, we should have done this 2 days ago instead of waiting for asiarooms to resolve the problem.
Help - any suggestions on hotel accommodations? We are flying in with Bangkok Air, arrival at 7 AM on July 25. What should we do? Should we just take a chance and look for a hotel when we get there? We need a triple room (3 adults in their early 20s). This is our first time in Thailand. We were originally looking for hotel prices of US$60-US$80/night. At this short notice, we are willing to fork out up to US$100-US$120 per night for the 3 of us. We are looking for a clean and preferably spacious room that is very close to the beach and the city center.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Asiarooms gets a lot of complaints -- you're not the first, and sadly probably not the last.
Here's links to the profiles of a few hotels that fall in your price range -- the pages have links to the hotel's webpage along with our reservations partner Sawasdee (who'll you'll find a good deal more reliable than Asiarooms)
Ark Bar - warning this is in the HEART of the party area, but id very popular and the rooms are fine.
And, if you haven't seen it already, there's a bunch more listings for Chaweng Beach here.
But also, bear in mind, you could just show up at Chaweng and you'll be able to find something -- there are stacks and stacks of hotels! Booking in advance just saved you the time of lugging your bags around.
