I'm in Vientiane right now. I'll fly out Udon Thani on 9th Aug. I am wondering what the best and fast way to travel from Vientiane to Udon Thani. Is there any direct bus sevice? I've heard about THAI Air has that service. Or should I follow the traditional way: take Thai-Lao Bus and then take bus from Nong khai to Udon Thani?

kevin,
there are regularly scheduled buses leaving a few times per day from the morning market bus station in vientiane bound for both nong khai and udon thani. any hotel/guest house or travel agent should have info on the exact departure times throughout the day.
we used this service to get from vientiane to nong khai last month. the cost was 55 baht or so, and it took about two hours to get to nong khai, including the stops at lao and thai immigration. i think the trip to udon costs about 80 baht, and should take at least one hour longer.
that at least gets you to udon thani, where you could take a tuk tuk to the airport. there was another similar messageboard thead a while back too which might have additional information. i hope that helps. regards.
