Hi everyone! Just got back a few days ago and thought I would take a break from editing and captioning my photos to thank everyone for the very helpful information that I received here. I'm trying to go back and add any helpful information to previous topics now.
But, if you're a woman who happens to be-for lack of a better term- top heavy, you may want to consider dressing even more conservatively. I was never what you could call scantily dressed, but was usually in a plain old gap t-shirt and shorts (or something similar) and I had three instances of men coming up to touch me. Usually nothing severe-just grabbing high on my upper arm right by my chest. There was also one man who really went for it on the water taxi and proceeded to rub his hands all over my back and sides before I pushed through the crowd to stand by a monk. Alas, the monk didn't really like that and he subsequently moved, but hey, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.
And before any of you jump in with saying I asked for it because of the way I was dressed, I was pretty dowdy compared to most of the ladies there. I went and bought several plain cotton tees from the Gap before I left and this was basically my uniform. Not exactly what you would call sexy...
sorry to hear about those incidents, but good on ya for passing along the advice. i know that when i did a big trip through southeast asia back in '92, my "for lack of a better term - top-heavy" girlfriend had a few similar incidents too when i wasn't around.
on a slightly different topic, do you plan to add a trip report here to the messageboard once you get settled back in? cheers.
