Hi Everyone,
I'm heading to Thailand for 3.5 weeks in Nov. Hoping to get to alot of islands, to Surin and then to Cambodia.
Just wondering if it's worth making the time to get up to Chiang Mai? And if so, how long would you suggest staying there for?
Cheers,
Erin.
Hi. Chiang Mai is one of my three favorite places in the world (Prague and Christchurch are the other two, if that helps), so I definitely try to get up there every time I'm visiting Thailand. What I can't know of course is if the travel time to get there and the days you'd spend in Chiang Mai are worth the days you wouldn't be spending on the beach as a result.
Chiang Mai is great for shopping, massages, restaurants, and just hanging out and meeting other travellers. I really like a few of the temples there too, including Doi Suthep, Wat U-mong, and Wat Pra Singh. You could do a good job seeing what Chiang Mai has to offer in three days (and easily enjoy several more days too). If you had the time, I'd definitely recommend a 24- to 48-hour side trip to Chiang Dao.
