We're aiming to be in Phuket for the vegetarian festival in October. Has anyone been to this festival, it looks like a pretty massive event. Will this make it very difficult to get accommodation. I take it most of the action is around Phuket town, so we'd like stay in one of the budget places in town. Is booking well in advance advisable even if we're not too fussed about where we stay in town? How easy is it to book more "local" Thai/Chinese hotels in advance?

Hi Fina,
Welcome to Travelfish!
The Vegetarian festival is indeed a huge affair, getting a reservation in advance would be a good idea, but many of the true cheapies cannot be reserved in advance. I'd suggest taking a look at our section on Phuket town and try to get a reservation with some of the places we list -- if you have no luck on that front, I'd suggest trying to get to Phuket a day or so beforehand and try to find a room -- you will find a room somewhere, though if Phuket is totally full (unlikely) there's hundreds of rooms on the beaches, so you will get something somewhere.

Hi Somtam, thanks very much for your advice. We'll probably arrive mid way through the festival so I guess it will be a challenge to find a room in town. Will definitley use the details on your site to try and sus something out though!
