My girlfriend and I will be in Thailand Oct 1 - 22nd. From what I have read about the weather I would be safer up around Ko Chang and then hit Ko Wai, Maak and Kut. We want to avoid the masses 500baht a night with a decent selection of food and a mountainous yet navigatable interior.
With three weeks would we enjoy ourselves more this time of year on an Island like Lanta?
We live in Shanghai and need to get out of here!!

oct. is the end of the rainy season. it´s gettin´better-drier&sunnier-from east to west. so chances are heaps better in chang and around, than on lanta. i, pesonally dislike k. chang, since the isle went upmarket and is on its way to another phuket-thanks to the real estate specs of the prime minister thaksins family! wai and maak are a good choice, while kuud is simply the best. what do you mean by avoiding masses 500 b. a night?
and...chang and kood are definitly mountainous with a hardly navigatable interior.
regards

thanks for the response - yea glad to hear a good recommendation for koh kuud.
We are looking to keep away from tour groups with magaphones.. hence I refer to the "the masses" I wonder if koh kut can offer us a room for 500B a night?
Thanks again..any other advice - places to stay on koh maak or ko kut would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

cheapest place-it´s a lovely one- is "island hut" simple bungalows w. attached shower and toilet on koh maak. they go for a250 baht/night.
on koh kuud siam bungalow or sea view-different beaches- are among the cheapest.
hope this helps you a bit.

koh kood is the 4 th biggest isle in thailand. there is a village on the east side, grocery stores-rarely-bring your stuff. a road , a rough one, is going round the isle-yea you can rent motocycles-easily. highlight is a scenic waterfall-westside, in the middle approx.
