Hi,
I am booking 5 nights at www.ubonvillasamui.com in December (thanks for the referral exacto). I have been in contact with the manager and he has requested that I pay the full amount via bank transfer to confirm my booking. Is this a usual request?
Thanks,
Tim
the bank transfer thing is pretty typical. we used that several times on our last trip to pay/confirm our first night at a hotel. i've never been asked to pay for as many as 5 nights up front however, but suspect that since it is such a small property, and december the peak season, they feel the need to get confirmed/paid bookings.
so, it is a fairly usual request but for a larger-than-usual amount. does that help? i don't know if locking yourself in for those 5 nights is worth it for you or not. i suppose you can always give them a counter-offer of paying just one or two nights up front too and see what they say. cheers.

Hey Exacto,
That’s what I thought, I have never paid more than the first night before either, but we are there over New years. Our stay there is just the beginning of a yearlong land and sea odyssey over 5 continents and Im sure this wont be the first chance I may lose some money.
I think I will go ahead and pay the full amount. Worst case scenario I will lose 2500 baht..... Not the end of the world.
Thanks,
Tim
asking for a deposit like that over new year's makes a lot more sense. please let us know how it goes, because as i'm the one who recommended this place, i'll feel like a complete tool if you lose money on the deal. cheers.

I transferred the money on the 12th of this month, it’s now the 25th and I have heard no response from them and no reply to email enquiries.
Is it possible that communication from their end maybe closed due to the coup?
I'm not really that worried yet, these things can take time I guess. Even if I do get ripped off its not the end of the world, just disappointing really.
Fingers crossed I hear from them this week.
Will keep you posted, it looks and sounds like a great place to stay, I would hate to miss it!
Hmmm, I'd have expected to hear from them -- I doubt very much the coup would have affected anything -- perhaps they just haven't got around to going down to the bank!

Hi Somtam
My friends who are also staying there have transferred money on the same date. My transfer is from the UK and my friend’s transfer is from Australia.
They also have not heard from anyone.
I will phone the manager later in the week if I have no response.

Hi,
Good news, all is ok. The money transfer went through. My faith in the system is restored!
Although 200 baht of the total didnt make it there, maybe bank fees at the other end or something.
My friends money also went through.
Cheers and Beers,
Tim
