Hello,
I know everyone's saying how wonderful and informative this site is -- and such praise could not be more justified.
I am flying into Bangkok in October. But the destination I have my heart set on is Chiang Mai and the outlying jungles and mountains of the North.
I've been looking on some sites for airlines operating within Thailand and keep coming back to disbelief:
Is it really as cheap as they say? $13USD to fly from Bangkok to Chiang Mai? Is that only if I book in advance? How hard is it to get a flight on the same day of purchase? Are the prices much higher for same-day?
Any thoughts on these matters are most welcome. And, again, thanks to everyone for all the information I've gathered reading this message board.

Thanks, Kristi. That's one of the sites I saw the dirt-cheap airfare. Is that on the level? And, can I expect to be able to walk into the airport and book something like that on the spot, leaving in two hours or something?

Hi
Have just booked BKK - CNX in November myself ... flights cost US$38.60. The taxes and charges are almost as much as the ticket prices. But still so cheap compared to Nok Air or Bangkok Airways.
If you check the airasia site you will see that flight costs vary according to time of flight. I was lucky that the flight I needed happened to be the cheapest.
Note with air asia only 15kg baggage allowance and they don't like you bringing any food or drink (even water) on board. As the flight is only 70 minutes either go without or appreciate the cheap flight by buying something ... I think a can of coke is UD$1.
Not sure about walk ups or if this is only online price 'cos they like to have booked bums on seats. Check in is 45mins before flight.
Hope this helps
Regards
Marian

The closer it gets to departure date, the higher the fares get -- you're best to book well in advance, but even if you book close to the date, they're still bargain rates.
Note if you do book in advance and need to change the date, there are fees to alter the date etc...

Very happy with the price I managed to locate. Possible extra $$ if I want to change details within 48 hours of flight.
Still a bargain price ... so pretty happy!
Whatever floats your boat ... enjoy
regards
