Hi,
Just found this lovely little site while looking up train info for Thailand and thought I should sign up and ask the question I'm stuck on! :)
I'm trying to book a train from Thailand to NongKai to go to Laos. And also a ticket before that to go from Chiang Mai to Ayuthaya.
The problem is that Thai State Rail doesn't yet have an online booking facility and we are currently in Malaysia so can't visit a station in Thailand. We wish to book now as we have read that the 1st class sleepers fill up quickly so by the time we get to Thailand we'll only have 3 days before we want to get our first train and it'll probably be booked out.
Can anyone give us any advice on how to book our tickets from outside Thailand? Assuming we can pick up at Chiang Mai station then that would suit. The real problem is simply how to book right now though from abroad.
Thanks!

Hello Jozudave,
A good site for general info (which I know you already have - but its a good site for train travel) is http://www.seat61.com/Thailand.htm
They have a section on that page "how to buy train tickets"
I believe you will find what you are looking for on there.
Cheers!

I used this site to book my tickets in adavance from Koh Samui to Bangkok and had no problems. They met me at the airport with the tickets for a small fee as I too couldn't get to a train station. www.traveller2000.com

Traveller2000 is a good, reliable online agent, have used them a couple of times when traveling around holiday periods; tix are always waiting at our hotel at check in, their service is an additional 200THB/ticket
State Railway of Thailand does indeed have online booking now, apparently without an additional fee:

I don't have any experience with it yet, but have read of others using it successfully.

Hi all,
I have used the Thai Railway website to book tickets for the next few weeks, with no trouble (as yet- i haven't actually been on the train :)) they send you a pdf of your ticket to print off. Seemed easy enough! Only problem is you can only book certain classes on certain lines- may not be the ones you need jozudave. Good luck!
