We are currently traveling throughout Thailand for several weeks before moving on to Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. We just visited Bangkok, Ko Sichang, Bat Island, Si Racha, and are now in Ayutthaya (beautiful!). In a few days we will be heading North to Chang Mai in search of some great hill tribe trekking. The problem is everyone and their brother here seem to have an opinion of what treks are best. We figured it better to ask all you folks if you have any personal experience. Any recommendations on Chang Mai and the vicinity (chang rai, etc) would be hugely helpful! Many thanks...
If you're main goal is to see a lot of hilltribes, then Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai is best. For scenery and caving + national parks, Nan is the pick. For caving and more caving, Soppong and for more a more general mix, with lots of other travellers, Pai or Mae Hong Son.

Nice blog -- I'd never heard of Bat Island -- interesting.
There's a couple of general advice stories on the trekking scene in Thailand, read below:
10 Thailand treks aside from Chiang Mai : http://www.travelfish.org/feature/138

Hope that helps
