Is it possible to make a one day trip to Krabi when we are staying in Nakhon Sri Thammarat?

That shouldn't be a problem at all if you just plan to see the town and then head back. However, if you want to do a boat trip, visit an island, etc., then I'd say that you won't have enough time.
It's a nice trip between the two places. Beautiful scenery.

It's a good 5 hours each way by public transit! And then getting to Ao Nang is nearly another hour by songthaew. I'd suggest you spend the night.
