On January 1st I arrive in Surat Thani by train at 4:30 pm and need to get to Krabi. It looks like the last bus leaves ST at 5:00 pm. is this correct? Is it possible to get from the train station to the bus station in this amount of time?
If this is not possible, are there alternative ways to get fro,m ST to Krabi?
Thanks.

If you miss the government bus, there will be private minibuses doing the same trip later in the day/evening.

When you get out of the Train station in Surat Thani, they will try to sell you tickets to go to Krabi for 250/300 baht and tell you 3 hours trip. DO NOT BUY THERE!.
What they will do is, they will drop you by van on a rip off stop by that sells 1 banana for 60 baht, make you wait 45 minutes. You should be hungry that time after getting off the train and you will buy food that cost 10 times normal price at the "45 minutes stop". It's all planed ahead..
Then they will drop you at a government really old bus that you have to wait another 1 hour before it leaves. The ticket cost only 130 Baht if you bought it directly. So when you arrive in Surat at 8:30 you will only be leaving to Krabi around 12:30 PM, then arrive in Krabi around 16:00 PM.
So, you get ripped of from ticket, you go on a very very old bus, and you spend almost 7 hours in total, instead of 3.5 hours. It's a horrible experience.
Don't listen to what they tell you, you go ahead and find your way to the city Main bus terminal. either by Taxi or Tuk Tuk with price agreed before.
The company name is Panthip Travel Krabi. Avoid them at all cost, they are very rude, dishonest and rip off cockroaches.
The best choice is to go by AIR directly to Krabi, it will save you lots of headaches... or take a VIP bus with few seats and is comfortable enough from Bangkok to Krabi
