Hello
We should arrive in Bangkok at 11:00 pm. November 1, so expect it may be well after midnight by the time we get into town. We want to stay in Banglamphu area and have reservations at Lamphu House for a couple of nights but not the night we arrive since they won't make that reservation. I understand that it should be no problem finding a room at any hour, but need a starting point, ie, where can I ask the taxi to take us where we would be in walking distance to a couple of good possibilities? up to 600 B/night only need a fan room with twin beds. Any likely spots that may have vacancies and late night check in? Also, how lit up are the streets late night? I live in a town with no street lighting so once the sun goes down, its very dark.
Thank you!

Hi soccermom,
Welcome to Travelfish!
Lamphu House sits a little way along a long u-shaped road that has around 30+ guesthouses on it -- I'd suggest getting the cab to take you to Lamphu House and drop in there just on the off chance they have a room -- if you're out of luck, ask if you can leave your bags there (they're a pretty friendly bunch and there's a garden "cafe" type thing where your companions could hang out) while you take a walk down the road to try and find something else. I'd try Rambuttri Inn (nexdoor, has a pool, but not as friendly), or, around the corner Mango Lagoon Place or one of the places just past it (can't remember their names off the top of my head) -- you shouldn't have to look too far before finding a room.
Ask your cabbie to take you to Lamphu House on Soi Rambuttri (which is walking distance from Khao San Road).
Soi Ranbuttri is a popular spot at night -- lots of street bars and eateries -- it will be well lit.
If you take a look at our map of West Banglamphu you'll see there are STACKS of places to stay -- while I've not marked Lamphu house on it (opppss!) it is between points 73 and 37.
Hope that helps!

Thanks Somtam! Have made a lot of use of your great site, but somehow missed the maps. And I see that you are a cartographer-many thanks for making these available!
