I'm also arriving late in Bangkok-1255AM I believe. Oct 19. I want to go to Chaing Mai more or less immediately or as soon as possible. Been to Bangkok years ago-no interest in returning except as pass thru. I was thinking of just staying at the airport till the 1st filght in AM. Is this a practical plan? Do the Chaing Mai flights go from the new airport or will I have to get to the old one??? I am planning to get the Discovery Airpass from Bangkok Air.
Any help would be appreciated. I finally got the air tickets yesterday!
Thanks again...

Hi yogamomma
Domestic flights leave from Suvarnabhumi Airport too. If you go to the Travelfish home page - hit the fish icon at top of page and scroll down there is info on the new airport - all departures are on Level 4.
With the airpass you need to book the first leg ... BKK - CNX the others can be left open until you're sure of your dates. Whether you hang out at the airport all night is dependent on when the first available flight is and customs will take 45 mins or so. I seem to recall that it's around 7ish and you need to be there 45 mins before the flight any way.
Hope this helps
Marian

Thanks so much Marian-that really helped! I understand from other posts that none of the hotels will take reservations after 11pm anyway. It seems like it will be a little hellish getting there but I am looking forward to a great trip. Somehow I'll make it!

Hi yogamomma,
It's not really thecase that nowhere wil take reservations after 23:00. Generally if you're booking at a place where you're paying in advance, they don't mind what time you show up, but if you're just making a reservation by email and no money is changing hands, the places can be a little more cagey about holding a room for you that late.
Overall, once you clear customs etc, you'd be loking at needing to spend around 6 hours in the new airport -- I'm not sure just how "24 hours" it is going to be as I've not beenthere yet...
