Wow, there are so many. But 3 I can suggest:
ON THE NICEST OF THE BIG 3 BEACHES - "Poolside" at Kata Yai.
IN A LAID BACK EAST COAST BEACH AREA - "The Bay" at Cape Panwa and its dearer associate "Cape Panwa Hotel"
ON A VERY NICE NOT BUSY BEACH NEAR THE AIRPORT (but no aircraft noise) - "Naithonburi" on Nai Thon.

An exception nice and friendly resort is Phuket garden homes which is located in Kata, but not on the beach. It is the top of Thanai road about 10 mins walk from the beach. It does have a swimming pool and rooms are large with tv and fridge. You would need to book anytime between Nov - Mar.
However, you really need to decide which part of Phuket you want to stay in as Patong is totally different to Kata/karon as they are to Rawai. Find the place you want to stay and then look for a hotel!
