Bangkok Airport

Hi, Just wondering if anyone knows if the Sky Train route from Suvarnabhumi airport is open yet?
Or would taxi/bus still be the best way to get into the city?

Taxi is still the best.

There has been a lot of info on Lonley Planet TT forum. Search for details.

Basically it is not finished and it is not the BTS. It is part of the SRT (State Railway Thailand). It will not connect to the BTS.

The BTS is however being extended past On Nut but that is also not open yet.

A train would only be convenient for passengers with a carry on bag.

Agree with KevinCorr - was there last month and taxi still the only really viable route. Last I heard it was being held up by industrial disputes, but just checked online and Wikipedia reckons construction work itself has been completed and that the line will open in April.

This is the first I've heard about it not being a BTS link - is that a recent change or was it always the plan and I've just been misinformed?

The SRT Train shown in red and pink on the map goes to the airport but is not a Skytrain. SRT train does have it's own station Makasan but does meet the MRT at Petchaburi and Phaya Thai.

Hi,
Not sure about the skytrain progress but rather than taxi here is a very large and efficient bus station at the airport. A free bus takes you from the airport to the station and buses and their routes are clearly shown. From here you can get a bus to most places in Bangkok and much cheaper than a taxi!

Tere ARE trains running but exactly to what schedule or even what purpose, i couldn't say. There is no signage at the airport except in the hall downstairs where you go through to get to the taxis, buses etc. - there you will see a sign at the top of an escalator saying to the Trains or something similar.
