Not sure if there's a closer pick-up point, but I would get the bus from the northern bus terminal at Morchit. You can take a taxi there from the airport, or alternatively I'm sure you must be able to get there by bus from the airport.

Chris, you sure busses go from Morchit to Kanchanaburi ? I thought they all went from Sai Tai Mai (southern) bus station. That's where I caught mine anyway. Sai Tai Mai is a bit of a distance from Suvarnhabumi but I think you can take the motorway for most of the way so, depending on time of day, it shouldn't take that long... My guess is the taxi fare will be in the 200 to 300 baht range plus the nominal airport pick-up fee and the fee for getting on the motorway (probably 30 baht).
By the way, Ano, to save you some confusion and the hassle of trying to get directions from people who only speak Thai, at Sai Tai Mai all of the ticket counters are up on the third floor of the bus station - take the elevators up there and you'll see the Kanchanaburi ticket booths. Then it's highly likely the bus will leave from the back of the station... That's where most of the boarding areas are (there are also some in the front but our bus left from the back). If you get confused show someone your ticket and they should help.
Good luck,
DL

I'm certain DLuek is correct in saying that the buses for Kanchanburi all leave from Sai Tai Mai.

You did make me wonder then! :) Was all ready to apologise, but have double checked (including with Travelfish) and it turns out they leave from both Sai Tai Mai and Morchit, hence the confusion. It seems from Morchit it takes half an hour longer (2.5 hours) but my guess is that by the time you've made it out to Sai Tai Mai it's going to make little difference, so either way will get you there.
Current surcharge for taking a meter taxi from the airport is 50 Baht.
Thanks all :)
