Romantic holiday in Thailand in mid May for two weeks?

Posted by Traveller84 on 21/2/2010 at 13:06

Hello, my partner and I are intending to head to Thailand from mid May for a two week holiday. We have 12 nights in total.

My boyfriend would would like to spend the first three nights in Bangkok then fly to Chang Mai for three nights then fly to Ko Samui for six nights. I have looked on Thai Air website and Bangkok to Chang Mai seems fine, 1 hour 10 mins flying time but Chang Mai to Ko Samui seems to go through Bangkok and can take 7 hours all up.

Would we be better spending 4 nights in Bangkok then flying straight to Ko Samui for 8 nights or will be run out of things to do in Ko Samui? I do not want to spend our time in transit or in airports.

We want to relax, go to the spa, lie on the beach and go out at night.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Whoa! This is totally tricky!!
Fer a start, RELATIONSHIPS 101 says COMPROMISE!! - don't burn the boyfriend's wishes.

But then, GOOD TRAVEL 102 says DON'T RUSH, it's way more relaxing spending sufficient time in a place to get to know it well - it's dumb spending time in airport waiting lounges and similar in between.

Me, I'd spend 6 nights on Samui. But then, Lady Tezza knows the size of my index funds - she aint gonna get too upset about unilateral decisions.

Thanks Tezza

So you are saying it's possible to do Bangkok-Chang Mai-Samui? You said yes to the 6 nights in Samui?

Was thinking Chewang beach in Samui? Would you recommend?

There aren't direct flights between Chiang Mai and Ko Samui with Thai or AirAsia. However, there are direct flights between Chiang Mai and Phuket --- www.airasia.com

Thanks idreamofdurian, I found direct flights with Bangkok Air.

So looking for opinions on whether this is an ok intinerary?

Yep, 6 nights in Samui is sufficient. And I like Chaweng - lots of nice accommodation and a pretty sweet beach.
But google Thong Ta Kien for a nice small beach with good access to both Chaweng and Lamai.
And for blowout views on a flashpacker budget google Jungle Hut.
And of course, check what TRAVELFISH has to say on these places!
