Hi,
On all previous trips to Thailand have packed and worn long trousers when visiting any place of religious significance.
In an attempt to cut back on 'stuff' and generally travel lighter; my question is...Would a sarong suffice for said long duds at same time show appropriated respect and be culturally acceptable to Thais.

A long sarong is perfect for covering legs and staying cool whilst visiting temples and you'll probably find many people doing the same thing.

Yes sarong is perfectly fine - last trip my gf carried one with her just in case we stumbled upon an interesting looking temple.
By the way, great title to your post!
