from aranya prathet to ban phe: POSSIBLE??

i posted last week about going from aranya prathet to pattaya, but that was before we had specific travel plans.
so now after more research, here's what we would like to do, and wondering how feasible it is.
ideally, we would like to go from aranya prathet to ban phe in order to go to ko samet the next morning. we'd like to stay in ban phe. can we get there fairly easily from aranya prathet? is there a bus? are the roads ok? do we need to go to pattaya first?
i know in my previous post, it was said that there is a bus from aranya prathet to chanthaburi, but unsure of getting to ban phe from aranya prathet.
also, anyone know about places to stay around ban phe?

Hi Tanya,
You'll need to get a bus from Aranyprathet to Chanthaburi and then change for a bus to Rayong. From Rayong it's a 20 minute songtheaw ride to Ban Phe. It is worth asking at the bus station in Chanthaburi after a direct bus to Ban Phe (or a Rayong-bound one that passes through there) as I'm not sure if there is a direct bus.
In Ban Phe there are a couple of cheap gesthouses, though they're no great shakes -- the last regular boat to Samet leaves 6pm-ish so I'd aim for getting into Ban Phe before then to get to the island same day (you'll have no problems getting from Siem Reap (which is where I assume you're starting from) to Ban Phe in a day .

do you know about how long the bus ride is from Aranyaprathet to Chanthaburi?
and yes i'll be starting from Siem Reap, about what time do you think i should leave Siem Reap in order to get to Ban Phe in time to catch the last ferry?
