Dokmai Garden - a novel private botanical garden aimed at knowledge.
Dokmai Garden in Chiang Mai aims at providing knowledge about monsoon plants, rather than displaying fields of bright colours. This private garden has collected nearly 900 plant species, of which 500 are labeled with scientific names and interesting facts in English, Japanese and Thai. The signs are made of aluminium, as wood and plastic usually quickly deteriorates. In addition to fruit trees, vegetables, exotic ornamentals and native forest trees, the garden is the home to 70 species of wild free-living birds, 25 species of Mekong fish, water buffaloes, lizards and many wild and free-living butterflies which enjoy the nectar plants. A European PhD in biology is often around to guide you, and to answer questions. Dokmai Garden aims at low numbers of visitors, to be able to meet each visitor as a personal guest. If the heat troubles you, please enjoy the airconditioned shop with botanical literature, western toilets, a guest shower, free wireless internet, drinks and Thai food in an outdoor restaurant. The opening hours are 10-17 Tuesday-Sunday. Dinners and functions can be arranged upon request. Tel. +66-8-94339045.www.dokmaigarden.co.th
Admission price is 300 bhat
