Help! We want to get from Phuket to Luang Prabang via air. We can get the first flight out of Phuket at 06:55 arriving Bangkok at 08:15 on Air Asia. Then there is a flight available on Bangkok Air that goes to Luang Prabang leaving at 09:30. Can this be done without freaking out? If it's the first flight, we're hoping it's going to arrive on time, but we're not familiar with the airport and not sure if we can get to Bangkok Air departure gate in time. No checked bags, just carry-on. Can we do it? (unless someone has a better idea)! We don't want to waste time traveling! Thanks!
It would be cutting it close. I would definitely not attempt it with checked luggage, but without you'd probably make it assuming your flight from Phuket is right on time and the queue to check-in to Bangkok Air flight isn't too long (if you can print boarding passes before-hand then all the better).
Basically you would have to run out of the domestic arrivals on the 2nd floor and take the escalators directly up to the 5th floor (I think it's 5, maybe 4) to check in to the flight to LP in the departures area. The good thing is you wouldn't need to run or take a tram to some far off terminal - Departures and arrivals are both in the one big, main building near the parking garage and taxi stand, so it would just be a matter of going up and finding the Bangkok Air check-in.
Of course, the real determining factor would be how fast you're able to get through immigration since you'll be leaving Thailand. There have been reports of some long queues of late. Personally, I'd take a day in Bangkok just to avoid the stress of it.
