We recently decided to stop off at the Khao Yai National park on our way between Ubon Ratchathani and Bangkok.

We got off the train at PakChong which is the nearest town to the park. We contacted The Grean leaf Guesthouse, and they were more than happy to pick us up from the train station.

The guesthouse is about 7.5K from Pakchong on the main road to the National Park. The guesthouse has attatched double bungalows at 200 baht, and a couple of detatched bungalows for 300 baht all with fan and private bathrooms. The guesthouse has a very good menu of local Thai food that is reasonably priced.

The main reason to stay here though is that the guesthouse run very well organised treking tours of the Park, a 1.5 day tour costs 1400 baht and we found this to be of excellent value. The cost included all transport, fees into the park, all food and very good english speaking guides, who were very expeirenced in jungle treking and had excellent knowledge of park wildlife. Group sizes are a maximum of eight, with two guides. You can also organise 1 to 1 half day bird watching treks for 1500 baht.

We spent three days at the guesthouse and think it was one of the best experiences of our three month stay in South East Asia.

The whole organisation is a family run affair and we felt very welcome at the house and in safe hands when in the Jungle.
