Bamboo Garden Guest house, Udon Thani

The Bamboo Garden Guest house is a friendly cheap place just outside Udon Thani with delicious thai and western food. The room with aircon/refridgerator/ cable-tv/hot shower and clean beds are only 450 baht/night during high and low season. The fan-rooms are 350 baht/night.
There is also a wonderful swimming-pool and there is taxi-service to town/airport/laos boarder Nong Khai and on your request to some tourist attractions.

Enjoy the stay in a traditional thai village and meet the nice and friendly local people.

We stayed there for a week and will NEVER go back or recommend this place. The owner is a nice Thai lady who is an excellent cook. Her ex-husband, Frank, remains there in a small room for many years since their divorce. I first visited this place 6 years ago and they were both pleasant back then.

After MANY years or serious daily alcohol abuse, Frank has become quite abusive himself, as most alcoholics do after MANY years of too much DAILY whiskey. He insists on having what is basically an open-air bar at night for fellow alcoholics, playing LOUD music playing with tota;l disregard for the peace and quiet of the paying renters.

If this was not enough bothersome noise, they allow local school drop-out kids (most 12-15 yr old boys) to come daily to swim and basically take-over the entire common pool area. All this disruption for a few baht!

The room was very small and dirty. The cleaning lady has no idea how to really clean a room.

For all cooking, ice and drinking water they just boil the tap water. Any traveler who has done any Thai research knows that the water is good ONLY for the toilet and cleaning... NEVER for drinking, cooking or ice. Frnak's excuse was, "I've been drinking it for 20 years and not died yet." It is, oc couse, a well known FACT that the local Issan water is LOADED with carcinogens and it may take many years for cancer to show up.

Highly NON-recommended!
