The Bamboo Garden Guest house is a friendly cheap place just outside Udon Thani with delicious thai and western food. The room with aircon/refridgerator/ cable-tv/hot shower and clean beds are only 450 baht/night during high and low season. The fan-rooms are 350 baht/night.
There is also a wonderful swimming-pool and there is taxi-service to town/airport/laos boarder Nong Khai and on your request to some tourist attractions.
Enjoy the stay in a traditional thai village and meet the nice and friendly local people.
