Description: Owned by Jib (Chiang Mai Local) and Bronson (American living in Chiang Mai for 6+ years), Grandma's cooking school was opened August 2008 with the idea of teaching interested parties complete hands-on knowledge of traditional Thai cooking. Jib's grandmother (Khun Lek) has owned and operated restaurants in Chiang Mai for over 30 years. Currently her two sons run one restaurant at Chiang Mai Lanna Golf Course and another next door to the cooking school. The recipes taught are based on Grandma's recipes and her cooking style. Here at the cooking school we do not use MSG (Monosodium Glutemate) and we also offer brown or red rice which provides more Vitimin B than the typical white rice. Our instruction starts from scratch between 8-9AM with pick-up from your place of stay and a visit to Wararot market, where we purchase the days ingredients as well as show the incredible selection of various items available at Chiang Mai's largest walking market. From there we proceed a short drive out of main town to our home. There you will have a chance to learn several dishes of your choice ranging from soups and curries to stir fry and salads to appetisers and desserts. All dishes are prepared by you and cooked by you, with the helping instruction and example of Khun Jib (and sometimes Grandma herself) along with traditional styles of kitchen, prepping, and cooking. Then you get to enjoy the meals you make.
Grandma's Thai Recipes Cooking School is set on about 1/2 - 1 acre of land, a very peacefull setting with a fish pond, vegetable and herb garden, and a collection of wild orchid plants which show beautiful flowers of many colors and species (when in bloom).
Currently we only offer day courses which run at 900Baht/person. Booking is available online, by phone or fax, or drop by our restaurant.
So if you are interested in cooking and eating Thai food and learning about Thai culture, come learn and enjoy at Grandma's Thai Recipes.
