Hi Exacto,
T/you for prompt response. I'm new to this + first time in Laos. Have
an idea of what I think I would like to see in North, no accom. booked
I would expect to be in the south mid Jan.
U appear to use Travelfish - would appreciate any travel advice for
thistime of year, I chose dates, in the hope less humidity and heat,
while knowing it will be a very busy time.
How do u suggest we make further contact.
Over to u, Have a great day, Meg
I imagine you'll find quite a bit of the info you need to plan your Laos trip by just lurking around on this site. Luang Prabang is a great starting point for the north but there are lots of other places to see too.
As long as you aren't planning on travelling over the New Year holiday, I don't imagine you'll need to worry too much about reservations for accommodation, and probably not for transport either, except maybe for any air flights you plan to take.
I'm in Thailand right now and so far it has been pretty quiet, despite being the high season for travel. But I've only been to a few of the less visited spots so far too.
Anyway, can't say for sure that I'll be in southern Laos the same dates as you, but if we are then definitely up for sharing a bottle of wine over a good meal or such. Try sending a note to the site admin asking him to forward your email address to me (or Somtam, if you are reading this, please feel free to send my email to Meg). Cheers.

Hi meg. It just so happens that i plan to be in chang mai from the 6th to the 11th and on to laos from there. Would be keen to meet up and share some knowledge.
standard form letter:
I'm a 27 year old American guy on his first real backpacking tour. I'm traveling with a friend until the last week of january. After that i have decisions to make. We head to Chang Mai on the 6th of Jan (for five days or so?) and plan to head to Laos from there. His trip ends in KL in early feb so we intend to head south from laos (by way of cambodia) and back into southern Thailand in time for him to get back. So thats me. I'm always keen to meet people or exchange info and experience.

Meg40, I'm landing in Ho Chi Minh City from Toronto Canada, on Jan.20th. and will be in Vietnam till Feb.19th. I've not made any travel reservations yet. I'm "back packing" and thinking of going north to Nha Trang, then head south along the coast to the Mekong. I'm reading that accomodations and modes of travel might be tight during the TET celebrations (Feb 14-?).

Hey Meg,
I'm planning to be in southern Laos (Champassak and Pakxe) in mid January. Does that more or less fit your itinerary?
Cheers.
