Hi there,
Has anyone from the US bought travel medical insurance. Is it worth it? Any suggestions for companies?
Thanks,
Valerie

I can't recommend any US companies for travel insurance, but please don't be silly enough to not get it. Read some of the posts in the Insurance forum on this site to see why, and to get some advice: http://www.travelfish.org/board/topic/travelinsurance
You may wish to not insure your electronics, etc to keep costs down, but you defnitely want medical coverage which includes evacuation if needed.

To see an example of what happens when you don't have insurance refer to this site: http://www.supportcarlbart.com/ (in his case, I believe the insurance lapsed while he was away and couldn't be renewed). This is the story of a relative of one of the posters on this site.
Even if you don't go motorbiking, you could still become injured or sick and need to be repatriated home. You need to consider how you and/or your family will manage this without insurance.
Insurance is a relatively small portion of your total travel cost.
