Chikungunya- which is an epidemic in Asia at the moment.
Is more deadlier than we can imagine. There have been many deaths related to chikungunya.
www.bio-medicine.org have many more websites this is just one.
(Chikungunya was one of more than a dozen agents that the United States researched as potential biological weapons.)
There is no press coverage of the deaths and the epidemic spread of chikungunya.Yet there is so much press coverage of the swine flu
why when more people are getting the chikungunya virus which can cause death.

For the same reason that Dengue and Malaria don't get a lot of western news coverage:
Because they are mosquito born diseases that don't thrive in the northern climates. Also, although the morbidity rate is high, it is not an extremely common infection. Dengue and Malaria are far more common.

According to:
http://www.searo.who.int/en/Section10/Section2246.htm
"Chikungunya fever is not a life threatening infection."
But, that said, I'd try and avoid any disease.
Cheers
