You've got Bupa blue cross which is focussed on medical insurance -- I know some expats in Bangkok use that -- it isn't particularly cheap.
There's also World Nomads (who we're partnered with) who see travel insurance online, so it doesn't matter where you are when you make the purchase from them.
We liked the World Nomads website, and thought they offered very good coverage with very high limits for the money, particularly with emergency evacuation travel costs. We also liked that you can sign up for coverage anytime and add coverage on the fly if your trip dates change or extend.
Having said that, we decided to go with a U.S.-based company called Travelex. They had lower coverage limits, but at a lower cost. We thought those limits better fit our needs. They can also sell you a policy for an exact number of days. World Nomads seemed to sell for a fixed amount of time, like 2 months or 3 months, etc.
We liked the idea of buying travel insurance ahead of time, so that our trip to Thailand from the states is covered. Both of these companies also offer travelers assistance as part of their coverage. We never filed a claim, so can't comment on how responsive the companies are on that end. Hope this helps. Cheers.

Hi sglennan,
Welcome to Travelfish!

Others may have suggestions

I have just used a link in the 'STA' travel website, very good policy and price. Also used 'Mondial' before, no problem.
