Save 5% off all travel insurance policies with World Nomads

  • somtam2000

For a limited time, we've arranged a 5% discount on all travel insurance policies organised through World Nomads. This discount is available to all Travelfish members, other than North Americans (sorry guys and gals, but according to WorldNomads they're not permitted to offer discounts on travel insurance to North Americans).

To get the promo code, log into Travelfish and you'll see the promotional code listed in bold as the number one news item in the Member Centre.

You need just enter the code when you book your policy and there you go, you've saved a few bucks!

    Hi Somtam

Can I purchase a policy now to take advantage of the discount, even though I'm not traveling until nov.

    Kind Regards

    Hi Marian,

Yes I believe so -- when you purchase a policy you specify what dates you want it for, so I assume you could by a policy now for November.

Can I warn you to please check the small print on this policy before purchasing. It is cheap for sure but they do not cover you might need. A very brief overview of my situation.... I was in Vietnam and came down with an urgent but not an emergency medical condition that I was told by the insurance company that it should not be treated in Vietnam. I flew back home (on their advice) to discover they would not pay for my ticket home because I would have been flying back home anyway one day so why should they fund the ticket. They also do not fly you back to continue your trip if you are repatriated. They refused to let me get treated in Bangkok (possible as my condition required just a very very minor surgery) so I could continue my trip. If you want the peace of mind of being covered in an emergency but do not want to pay a lot of money then this is an OK policy. If you want something more comprehensive then you will have to pay the big bucks!

Yes I've been looking into this, but it doesn't seem to be valid for people living in and traveling (only) thru Southeast-Asia and surroundings. That's a pity !

So much for World Nomads travel insurance. You are out of luck if you are over 60. Rather outrageous really. I don't know if age discrimination laws apply to insurance companies. Probably do not given the power they have but they ought to. I also think Lonely Planet and Travelfish should be more considerate of their older devotees!!

Does this offer still apply? It's listed as your number one benefit in joining travelfish, but I can't see any promotional codes in the Member centre.

After doing a little research, the World Nomad policy is underwritten by "Jefferson Insurance Company" which anyone can look up on "The Better Business Bureau" website.

damo: Yes it is still valid, not sure what happened to the promo code in the Member Centre, but it is back now.

foieslinger: I searched as you suggested and found nothing. You got a direct link?

Jefferson Insurance Company aka Mondial Assistance.

    http://www.bbb.org/richmond/business-reviews/insurance-companies/mondial-assitance-in-richmond-va-4001660/

It looks like the Better Business Bureau processed 318 complaints about them in the last 36 months of which 153 were closed in the last 12 months. The company has an A+ rating.

We just did a boatload of research on travel insurance, comparing lots of different companies and different types of coverage. One thing we noticed is that quite a few companies place age limits on their policies and/or require older travellers to pay an additional premium or purchase a more comprehensive policy, if they offer coverage for older travellers at all. I guess it is like life insurance.

Anyway, from that research we noticed that Jefferson is one of the companies World Nomads uses to underwrite policies issued in the United States, depending on what state you live in. I'd be surprised if World Nomads used Jefferson to underwrite policies from too many other countries though.

It seems that Jefferson is based out of Richmond, Virginia, and is part of the Access America group of travel insurance companies. Regards.

Right! So I'm on my way to SE Asia for 4 months. 1/2 way over 50 yrs. young ... need insurance ... used WN before ... a bit disappointed that I will not be afforded a discount thru TF and WN seeing that I am a returning customer to WN and have become a faithful member to TF way before I actually registered as a member. Not to mention that after reading about the 'tiff' btw LP and TF (which is sad) I cancelled my travel guides I had ordered the same day from LP. So TF can you offer a loyal member some secret juice* to make up the 5% discount that WN will not offer this 'NA'? Seeing that if I purchase thru your site, you 'may' receive a kickback.

@MyDestiny You've lost me a bit. Do you mean you can't get the discount because you're North American, or is there some other issue?

    Cheers

@somtam ... Sorry I was not clear ... No I'm just talking about not getting the discount!

(sorry guys and gals, but according to WorldNomads they're not permitted to offer discounts on travel insurance to North Americans).
